VERY IMPORTANT NOTE
<< How we quote verses of Holy Koran >>

Holy Koran as revealed to Prophet Muhammad in Arabic is almost impossible to be translated into any other language. The choice of vocabulary, the structure of words, the metaphors and symbols, the unique phrasing, and the unusual syntax interlace miraculously. They not only give infinite layers and connotations of meanings, but also shine with such a spiritual power that does not exist, for sure, with the best translations. For a believer, reading Holy Koran is a spiritual experience. When he recites or listens to the verses he feels communicated to a higher spiritual power.

Moreover Koran reveals knowledge about how man can live in harmony with the eternal laws that govern his spiritual journey in this life and the next one. Truths and laws in Koran are revealed to man indefinitely. What is miraculous about Holy Koran is that all layers of meanings do not contradict. The first layer is disclosed by good knowledge of the Arabic language. The deeper layers need bright thinking, efficient analysis, and synthesis abilities, open he arts and minds, together with a high degree of spiritual purity. Still when a certain meaning is revealed to someone, it is not correct to think that it is the only meaning or the absolutely true meaning of the verse itself.

So, our method of using verses of the Holy Koran in A Road Home is as follows: When the translation in published versions can well convey the layer of meaning aimed at in our context, we just use it. When the published translation is short of the meaning that is revealed to us through our own contemplation and spiritual experience we give our own translation.

The criteria of judgement we adhere to, when suggesting any meaning are:

  • It never contradicts with the first layer of meaning that the Arabic language allows.
  • Never does it contradict with reason, common sense, pure primordial nature, or well-established results in any field of human knowledge.
  • The suggested meanings go some steps deeper, and open the door for reading the Scripture anew.
